Spring supports are engineered piping support solutions that safely accommodate vertical and horizontal movements caused by thermal expansion, contraction, or settlement, protecting piping systems from excessive stress through variable or constant load control.
Variable Effort Supports
Variable Effort Spring Supports are compact, maintenance-free piping supports designed to safely accommodate small vertical movements (up to ~75 mm) due to thermal expansion or contraction by providing proportional load variation in accordance with Hooke’s Law, thereby minimizing pipe stress and protecting connected equipment. CPA offers two categories of variable effort spring supports; ‘AV’ and ‘LV’.
Standard Design Features
- Pre-compressed spring coil design to reduce headroom requirements and speed up installation
- Reserve travel provided at both upper and lower limits for operational safety
- Rugged, compact all-steel construction for long service life
- Grade 316 stainless steel scale plate and nameplate for corrosion resistance
- Clearly visible load indicator for easy inspection and setting
- Spring pressure plate acting as an effective centering device
- Hot-dip galvanized finish as standard; specialized coatings available on request
- ‘F’ type floor/base-mounted units supplied complete with load flange and internal load column guide
- Integrated travel stops to withstand preset and hydrostatic test loads
- Maintenance-free design for reliable, long-term operation
Type selection
The type of spring to be used is normally determined by the physical characteristics of the structure to which the spring assembly will be attached.
- LV Variable Support (Locking Variable)
- AV Variable Support (Asian Variable)
Constant Effort Support
CPA Constant Effort Spring Supports provide near-constant load support over large vertical movements, protecting sensitive piping and equipment from excessive stress under all operating conditions.
Features
- Maintains essentially constant supporting effort throughout the full travel range (±5% load variation)
- Ideal for large vertical movements (>75 mm) and load-sensitive applications
- Robust bell-crank lever design with universal locking of the load arm
- Universal locking enables safe hydrostatic testing, maintenance, and decommissioning
- Fully enclosed cylindrical spring housing prevents ingress of debris and damage
- Multiple support configurations to suit space constraints and steelwork layouts
- Upper and lower travel stops to prevent over-travel
- Clearly visible travel scale for easy inspection and monitoring
- Hot-dip galvanized finish and plastic-coated spring coils for long service life
